A Roll of Provia 100F

I had shot this roll in October of 2021 and simply forgot to have it developed. It was my first roll of positive color film and I had no idea how it would turn out. I took it out of the fridge and placed it on my desk to hopefully remember, but it sat there for a couple months before I finally dropped it off at the lab. I was quite pleased upon receiving the scans, as the tones were immensely aesthetic. Soft and pure colors with a gentle contrast, I will certainly be shooting more of this in the future.

Somewhere near the SoCal-AZ border.

I didn’t have any particular intent when I loaded this film, other than to stop and snap some photos on a drive back to Phoenix from San Diego. I shot a few landscapes and a few shots before leaving San Diego, but didn’t finish the roll. I ended up polishing it off around the house - shooting whatever caught my eye in the soft light through the window.

A rare still life image.

I have heard that this film is not great with skin tones, but I may take my chances with casual household portraiture on the next roll. At the time of typing this, a roll of 100F runs about $25, so I might not be shooting any for some time, but I certainly won’t be satisfied letting those tones escape for long.

There is a notable magenta cast in many of the images. While it is subtle and pleasing in some, it overrides the natural tones and changes the image drastically in others. I won’t rely on this film for a dedicated shoot until I have a better understanding of its characteristics.
